Advantages of Information Security Training

The development of the internet has made computer systems more vulnerable to hackers. The internet provides an easy route for hackers to gain access to an information system and possibly escape unnoticed. Indeed, a recent study has shown that with the increase in the use of the internet, the number of hackers has also increased. The finding is completely logical because as a larger number of people engage in e-commerce (online shopping) and e-banking (online banking) and a lot of companies turn towards the internet as a source of income, hackers may also view the internet as a good source of income. Companies do have many advantages in providing Information security training to its employees. This article will briefly concentrate on some of those advantages incurred by both the company and their customers.

Data loss can prove to be very disastrous to companies, as they will not only lose their customers’ trust but may also face a possible lawsuit (there are certain laws such as the Data Protection Act of 1998-UK, which require the companies to protect their customers’ data). Therefore by providing adequate information security the company will be able to maintain the trust of its customers. Another problem that a company may face due to a security breach is the loss of its own confidential data. This may include trade secrets, recent research or blueprints of products to be developed. This information may be very valuable, especially to other companies in its field. If a hacker gains access to such information, he/she can easily sell this information to other companies. Such a loss of data can again be prevented or minimized through the implementation of a secure network.
